Hi. I completely realized that everyone is going to have a different, very personal reaction to books. I understand what irritated you about my novel; a very good friend of mine felt similarly (my friends know that I can take honest negative comments). So I wish you'd liked it more, but that's what difference of perception is all about.

best,

I love Ahern's books! I think my favourite one is probably 'A Place Called Here' but I really enjoyed this one as well.

If you love Ahern, you'll also love a book called 'Knickles and Dimes'. It's fun and light-hearted and has really great characters. I'd recommend it!

Thanks for the review : )

Yes, I think I might have passed a few of those tendencies on .... I have been missing my book blog but with everything else, it seemed to get missed out. Luckily the library had a "recently returned" list and I was able to check what I read the last few months !!!

"Chronically inflexible" is a new term for me, but describes my Charles - and his mother! - exactly. It also describes his kindergarten teacher for next year ... I shudder to think how the two of them are going to co-exist.

BTW, glad to see you're blogging on books again!

Hello, thank you for reviewing my book, Freeing Your Child from Anxiety. I wonder if you have seen my new book, Freeing Your Child from Negative Thinking. I think you may find that it is very high on empathy, and it may resonate more with your parenting style.
All best,
Tamar Chansky

I'll keep an eye out for it. I'd also be interested in seeing how my reaction would differ ... although I'm not that anxious for a replay of those days. They weren't my favorite!

Shay, I can see that if you didn't have a connection with your child right away, it might explain the emotions she describes. I know lots of people who had the experience you did, for various reasons, and I think its terrible that people "expect" women to feel a certain way and those women then feel guilt when they don't. Any and all emotions are valid, and childbirth and parenthood is such a varied experience. The author of this book just seemed to be at such a distance from her child and so miserable about the whole thing, plus she hardly mentioned her husband at all so it was just odd to me. You might enjoy the book though - I'd be interested to know !
